“House of Thembiso (Promise in Xhosa) is a Place of Safety or Halfway Home for babies up to the age of 24 months. Abandoned babies are the most vulnerable in our society and House of Thembiso’s goal is not just for them to survive, but to thrive and grow into valuable members of society. The babies are cared for here until they are placed with suitable adoptive or foster parents.”

House of Thembiso is a Project of the Executive Welfare Council of the A.F.M of S.A. and is registered with the Department of Social Development as a Child and Youth Care Centre (CYCC) to take care of up to 10 abandoned infants at a time.
At House of Thembiso we give these babies the love, care and attention they need, not just to survive, but to flourish as Thembiso in Xhosa means promise.
10 fulltime staff members ensure that there are always at least 2 carers on duty to attend to every need of the babies in our care.
