The Christian vocation is to be in prayer, in the Spirit, at the place where the world is in pain, and as we embrace that vocation, we discover it to be the way of following Christ. – NT Wright
Prayers for our world during Covid-19 outbreak:
Pray for people who are infected or who are in isolation. Say thank you for you and your family’s health and the gift of life.
Jesus, during Your ministry on Earth You showed Your power and caring by healing people of all ages and stations of life from physical, mental, and spiritual ailments. Be present now to people who need Your loving touch because of COVID-19. May they feel Your power of healing through the care of doctors and nurses.
Take away the fear, anxiety, and feelings of isolation from people receiving treatment or under quarantine. Give them a sense of purpose in pursuing health and protecting others from exposure to the disease. Protect their families and friends and bring peace to all who love them.
Pray for people whose lives are more at risk if they get the virus
Dear Lord, we raise our concern for people who are more likely than others to become severely ill from COVID-19 – the elderly and people with chronic health conditions. Protect them from harm and their comfort in this time of uncertainty.
Pray for doctors, researchers, and leaders who make decisions to fight the virus
Father, we seek Your wisdom daily. Be with people making decisions that affect the lives and futures of our families, communities, countries, and the wider world. Inspire and invigorate people developing better tests to diagnose the virus, vaccines to prevent it, and protocols and communication to eliminate the spread of the disease. May truth and empathy be the touchstones of people setting policies for our protection.
Pray that the Lord will make humanity realize our vanity and that thousands of people will turn to the Lord for salvation.
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27
In the meantime, God has given us His Spirit to help us in our weaknesses. Our biggest weakness is that we do not always know what to pray for. But in such times, the Spirit Himself prays for us. He translates all our hardships into heavenly language. He sighs and complains to God on our behalf. And because God knows the Holy Spirit through and through, He knows exactly why His Spirit is praying so earnestly for us. And God also knows that the Spirit always prays for all believers according to His will.
We can now be sure of one thing: God uses every single thing that happens in our lives to accomplish his purpose. For us who love God, everything works out for our benefit. ” (Romans 8)
